How many volts is a LiFePo battery?
A car battery can easily provide thousands of amperes of short-circuit current, and if you connect a LiFePo across it, you have created just such a short-circuit. Assuming that your LiFePo battery is fully discharged, which means it has a cell voltage of 2 Volts, the total voltage of the battery will be at 8 Volts (4 cells in series).
What happens if LiFePO4 voltage drops?
Since the charge curve for LiFePO4 is so flat the result of these small voltage drops is that the cells with the higher voltages will charge/discharge at a slightly slower rate. For 2P configurations, the voltage drops turn out to ‘balance’ and not be a problem. However, for 3P or greater, the voltage drops do not balance out.
Why does LiFePO4 charge slower?
However, due to the resistance in the bus bars, there will be a small voltage drop between A&B, another drop between B&C, C&D and so on. Since the charge curve for LiFePO4 is so flat the result of these small voltage drops is that the cells with the higher voltages will charge/discharge at a slightly slower rate.
Which battery should I use if 12V & 24V is not enough?
If 12V and 24V are not enough for your needs, you can look at 48v lithium batteries. Connect the 16 pieces of battery cells in series, we will get a 51.2-volt LiFePO4 battery pack (We can call it 48volt as well). The 51.2V LiFePO4 battery weighs 1/3 as much as the lead-acid battery, but it has a higher energy density.
